In this course, you will look at the role email plays in our society, economy, and education today. You will examine the impact email has on our enterprises. You will view email as the important medium it has become and discover ways to manage it effectively for business, marketing, and personal uses. ou will also learn how to master your own email writing techniques as well as use the tools of the email trade.

Course Outline

The course is structured as follows:

Module 1: Introduction -- this module gives you an overview of the course

Module 2: The Four E's: Email and Its Impact on Economy, Education, and Enterprise -- this module discusses the growth of email and its impact on society.

Module 3: Email: The Medium -- this module covers the characteristics of email.

Module 4: Email and Good Business Practices -- this module gives you the tips you need for writing effective emails in the business arena.

Module 5: Email and Good Marketing Practices -- this module reviews what you should to do craft effective email marketing messages.

Module 6: Email and Good Mailing List Practices -- this module covers those unique email devices you should use to be a good mailing list member.

Module 7: Managing Your Email -- this module provides the nuts and bolts of how to use the tools of the trade.

Instructor Bio

Mary Anne has been teaching at St. John Fisher College in both graduate and undergraduate programs for the past nine years, with a specialty in business, technical and professional communications. In addition, she is the Chief Editor of Writer Online, a professional ezine for writers and lovers of writing.

Mary Anne has over twenty years experience in corporate and business communications including technical writing, instructional design, marketing communications and internet instructional design, serving in both corporate staff functions as well as an independent contractor and consultant for national firms including Kodak, Xerox, Metropolitan Life, Motorola, and others.

As a writer and author, Mary Anne has also published numerous articles in publications including Workforce magazine, Rochester Business Journal, Building Operating Management, Equus, Equine Journal, and Writer's Digest. She has written two books: Zen and the Art of Horseback Riding, and coauthored Retraining the Harness Racehorse. Mary Anne is finishing her master's degree in liberal studies with a concentration in digital virtual literacy from Empire State College.
